The Night Runner

Colin, a breakout indie film made for £45. The Night Runner made for under £2000, shot over 4 weekends with a small crew. Staring John Henshaw (Looking for Eric) this tragic love story pushes all the bounders with its controversial look at power drinks and the affect they have on the heart.

The Challenge

We always knew The Night Runner was going to challenge us in every way, even from the first conversations about the project, when the question was posed “Can we make a feature film for under £2000 and over 4 weekends?”. The thought of this alone would send most people running for the hills, but with £2000 on the table and a very small fantastic crew around us we knew we had a fighting chance. After finding our actors and getting them brainwashed into agreeing to this crazy plan, things started to pull together. We always wanted to make a film that was going to challenge its audience and potentially pose some controversial questions. Around the time we started to pull the idea of the story together, the nucleus of the idea always being someone running at night and seeing the ghosts of their past. There was a news story about a girl that had taken an energy supplement during the London Marathon and it had caused her to go into cardiac arrest. This fit was our character and her quest to run faster to catch up with the ghost of her past. We also tapped into the controversial potential of Nano technology in medical care. This gave us our main theme of the whole story, breaking hearts, whether that be physically or emotionally. With 3 weekends filmed out of the 4 we got some really great news that John Henshaw had read the script and was really excited about being part of the project.
